An impotent Atlético tie 0-0 against Qarabagh and is complicated in Champions
Qarabag players applaud their supporters after the draw against Atletico Madrid in Group C of the European Champions League played on October 18, 2017 in Baku
Atletico Madrid only drew 0-0 against modest Qarabagh and complicated their future in the Champions League despite the point added in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, the third date of the European Champions.
It is the second point that adds the Atletico in three parties, that is to two units of the Rome and to four of the leader of the group C, the Chelsea.
British and Italian players will face this Wednesday in London (18h45 GMT) and any result favorable to the Romans would leave Atletico in a very difficult situation.
It was a horrible game of the team that leads the Argentine Diego Simeone and luck had Atlético with which the Qarabagh is surely the weakest team of all who participate in this edition of the Champions League.
In fact, the point obtained by Azerbaijanis is the first to achieve in their four Champions League appearances.
Still, Atletico had two first-half heads-up to take the lead on the scoreboard: first came Belgian Yannick Carrasco (27) and then Frenchman Antoine Griezmann (39), but both came out the winner Bosnian Ibrahim Sehic.
The Uruguayan Jose Maria Giménez also finished at 6 meters a corner thrown by the Argentine Nico Gaitán, but the ball left a little high (40).
In the second half, and as the Spanish side became more and more entangled in tight local defense, the Qarabagh saw the possibility of seeking a historic victory against the runner-up in Europe in 2014 and 2016.
Brazilian Richard Almeida de Oliveira was the first to test Jan Oblak, with a distant shot, from 25 meters, in the first shot between Azerbaijani clubs (63).
– The locals, with 10 –
The Spaniard Míchel was the source of Qarabagh’s second dangerous move, with a measured pass to the Brazilian Pedro Henrique, but the latter, after escaping two defenses mattresses failed his shot (64).
With Atletico completely gone, it was South African Dino Ndlovu who was about to open the scoring, with a powerful shot that went over the crossbar (71).
The panorama cleared for the athletes when in lack of a quarter of an hour, Ndlovu was dropped inside the area, in a supposed contact with the Uruguayan Diego Godín, and the referee showed yellow card to the South African striker … that was the second and was expelled.
With one more, Atletico had their great opportunity to take the three points in a center of Gabi that headed Fernando Torres out (84).
With the Spaniards thrown in, Qarabagh was able to give the go-ahead in a counterattack by Sehic that ended Norwegian Tarik Elyounoussi with a shot from outside the area that went high (90).
