The Leganés keeps his dream alive but after drawing 1-1 in his field with Sevilla on Wednesday in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals.

The Colombian Luis Muriel ahead of Sevilla with a cross shot (21), before the Greek Dimitrios Siovas made the head tie (56).

The ‘mata-giants’ Leganés, who reached his first Cup semifinal after desalting Real Madrid in the quarterfinals, is still very much alive in the fight to reach the final after containing another major of the Spanish League.

“In the first part we could have scored some more goal,” said the Italian coach, Vincenzo Montella, after the game, adding that “in the second half after the draw it was a bit complicated”.

“For us it’s not a bad result,” Leganés coach Asier Garitano told Gol TV.

“We have clenched our teeth, we have endured a great team and with this result we will go to Seville to try to pass,” he added.

– Sevilla takes control –

The ‘Lega’ suffered in the first part, before taking a step forward in the second.

In the first 45 minutes, the locals had problems leaving their field against a Sevilla who had control of the game and who pressed to recover quickly when he did not have the ball.

He had just begun to shoot the ball when the Argentine Leganés goalkeeper Nereo Champagne put a providential hand to prevent his header from Sevilla Gabriel Gabriel (4).

Champagne was the true hero of his team on Wednesday, preventing with their interventions a major defeat and keeping alive the team pepinero in the tie.

In the quarter hour, Muriel warned with a shot intercepted by Gerard Gumbau, before seeing the door five minutes later.

The Colombian took a pass to the right of Sarabia to score and release a cross shot that sneaked into the goal after bouncing at the far post (21).

The goal fell like a jug of cold water on the Leganés, who went through some moments of bewilderment, while Sevilla continued to impose its dominance.

The game went to the break with two consecutive shots by Clément Lenglet and Mercado in goal that stopped Champagne.

– The ‘Lega’ reacts –

After the break, Leganés came out with more intensity in search of a quick goal that would allow him to balance the game.

The ‘Lega’ pressed up very high Sevilla, who took a step back and was not as dominant as in the first part.

The work of the locals won their prize when in the 56th after a corner kick, the ball went up and in his fall, the goalkeeper Sergio Rico goes wrong and can not stop Siovas heading almost inadvertently to the bottom of the net sevillistas.

The goal was a real blow for Sevilla, who stayed on the defensive looking for opportunities in counterattacks for a few minutes.

Little by little, the Sevilla was remade and regained control of the game, but it was not so easy to come against a Leganés better planted on the field.

In the 67th, Jesús Navas took out a center-chut that got poisoned and was about to surprise Champagne.

In the last minutes, both teams began to accuse the fatigue looking for their opportunities with long balls and centers to the areas, but without too much conviction seeming to consider the result as good.

After the tie, the tie will be decided next week in Seville.
