Richard Gasquet, the last Frenchman in the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, qualified for the quarter-finals by dismissing the German Mischa Zverev (55th overall) in two sets 6-2, 7-5 on Thursday.
This is another Zverev, Alexander, the younger brother of Mischa and N.4 world, who is now waiting for a place in the last four. A stage of the competition that Gasquet (34th) reached only once at the foot of the Rock. It was thirteen years ago, in 2005.
The Biterrois, who have not yet lost a set this week, stopped in the quarterfinals in 2007 and 2013.
Alexander Zverev qualified in the morning at the expense of another German, Jan-Lennard Struff, in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
